Doom of Guards

Yet another obscure reference. This time in reference to Sentinel’s Fate the upcoming 6th expansion to EQ2.

There are many informational items of note. As mentioned in this post, they will be increasing the level cap for adventuring classes to 90. Additionally, they will also be raising the level cap for tradeskills to 90. I can only guess what that will mean for Mythicals and Tradeskill “epics”. In the case of the TS “epics”, maybe they will make a Grandmaster cloak to strive for. I don’t know if that is the case. At this point everything is almost pure speculation.

But if they did, here is how I would implement it. As the TS instances require a set of skills that no player currently possesses, they could create a Tradeskill AA tree. TSAA could be achieved in one way – bonus XP for creating a new item. Once your, for example, carpentry line was complete (culminating in achieving the TS “epic” for that Tradeskill), then you would work upon improving your skill in other areas within your crafting archetype. IOW, once you finished with Carpentry, you could move on to either Provisioning or Woodworking. Then, you would need to get the TS “epic” for each of those, finally culminating in the Grandmaster Craftsman title, with a nice new cloak that incorporates portions of the three component TS class cloaks. Likewise, the same could be done for the Outfitter and Sage archetypes.

The beauty of this is that it wouldn’t invalidate your previous work in a tradeskill, but would allow for more actual playing of the game. It would give bored crafters something else to do; a new goal to shoot for.

Ok. Moving on to the rest of the expansion news. Unlike what I posted here, the upcoming expansion will not feature Velious. (Cue sad music). Which is a shame, because I really wanted it to be Velious. Instead, they went with Odus, and will have the starting city of Halas added, apparently as optional free content to be released concurrently with Sentinel’s Fate. AFAIK, Halas will be a good city, so finally the “Good” classes can shut up about in inequality of good/neutral/evil cities. This may just be my cynicism talking, but I am sure they will find something else to gripe about. The new continent is reported as containing some old-world zones such as Paineel, The Hole, Toxxulia Forest, and Erudin.

Currently, the expansion is due to be released some time in February of 2010. (Unlike the previous expansion releases in November/December timeframe – Guess I’ll have to figure out something else to buy myself for Christmas.)

Also, they will be bringing in an Auto-mentoring system that doesn’t require having a mentor point for outleveled solo content. I don’t know if this will be something that requires talking to an NPC to activate, or if you just automatically scale to whatever zone you enter. More to follow on that as it becomes available.

The Shard of Love will become available, though it is currently unclear exactly when this will occur. My guess is that it will be with the expansion, with world events leading up to it. This is due to the rumored return of Erollisi Marr. Still no word if this is going to be a “real” Shard zone (Like Shard of Fear) or a craptastic slap in the face. I guess that only time will tell.

    Let me sum up my points in a short list:

    -you are f*cking retarded

    -why would anyone want more exp bars

    -why would we want to trivialize ts progression by making it essentially like transmuting or tinkering

      In reply, let me sum up my rebuttal in a short list:

      – As my IQ is 152 and mental retardation covers the IQ range from 1-69, I am, in fact, not retarded. Additionally, I understand all the interrelated components required to copulate, I have two children whose existence occured due to the aforementioned understanding, so therefore, I am not f*cking retarded, either.

      – If you are interested in the minimalist approach, perhaps we should do away with AA XP altogether, then everyone can be cookie cutter alike. Is that what you want? If you think about it, adding TSAA would allow you to further make your crafter different than other crafters. Say, for instance, that there are three lvl 40 carpenters. The way the current system works, you get bonus TS XP for making an item, but there is nothing to distinguish between the carpenters. However, if they had TSAA, from the bonus XP they are already recieving for a new item, one could choose whether to specialize in wood house items, in metal house items, in stone house items, or in repair kits. SOE could code it where an item made by a specialist has 10% greater rent status reduction (in the case of house items) or 10% better repair (for repair kits – so the redwood patch kit would repair up to 60% instead of 50%). Then, once the carpenter had his or her TS epic, the carpenter would be eligible to begin (at level 1) either Provisioning or Woodworking. Once the crafter gained level 80, and earned the TS epic for each of those three classes, then the person could do the Grandmaster Craftsman quest, to receive the cloak.

      – Explain how any of this trivializes progression. It doesn’t. If anything, it gives crafters something to shoot for.
